Entrepreneurial spirit in Dorset is well and truly alive – and we’re here to help it grow.
Whether you’re thinking about starting a business or are in the early stages of running one, our Business Breakfasts are a chance to step away from doing it alone, meet other local entrepreneurs and tap into practical advice and support.
Over breakfast, you’ll join a friendly room of people who understand the opportunities and challenges that come with starting a business.
You’ll hear from local business owners who have been there themselves, sharing what worked, what didn’t and the lessons they wish they’d known when they were starting out.
There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, make new connections and find out about the wider support available to help you move your idea or business forward.
What to expect:
- Breakfast and informal networking
- A panel discussion with local business owners sharing their start up experiences
- Practical conversation around common start up challenges
- Q&A and the opportunity to ask your own questions
- Information about finance, local business networks and further support available
Meet the speakers
Sarah Rudder, The Kitchen Table.
Sarah has started not one business but two. After almost two decades designing leadership and talent programmes for organisations including Thales and The Body Shop, she founded Ginger Dog Development in 2018 continuing her work as a facilitator and coach helping people build confidence, resilience and mental toughness.
In 2023 she followed a very different passion and opened The Kitchen Table in Shaftesbury, one of only a handful of bookshops in the country devoted entirely to food writing. Since then the shop has since expanded into a bigger space, she’s interviewed the likes of Prue Leith and Rick Stein for her events programme and launched Vanny Cradock, a converted library van that travels to food festivals across the UK. Sarah will be sharing honest lessons from both ventures, including the mindset it takes to make the leap.
Jim Chetwode, Opaki & Co.
Jim founded Okapi & Co in 2025, after 30 years working in digital marketing. He is chair of Shaftesbury and District Chamber of Commerce, and sits on the board of the Angel Cafe in Langport, he is also a Dorset Ambassador.
As part of his work with Opaki & Co, Jim has recently launched Town Stack, a town website platform covering what’s on, shops and services, jobs and reasons to visit, with listings kept up to date by an AI pipeline that turns emailed flyers into events.
These events form part of a wider programme of business start up support being delivered across the Dorset Council area, with Business Breakfasts and workshops taking place in communities across the county.
Come along, meet other people on the same journey and leave with new ideas, useful connections and a clearer idea of what to do next.
