Why The Accidental Managers Programme?

Promoted… but never taught how to manage?

Many employees step into management roles without formal training, yet are expected to lead teams, manage performance and handle difficult conversations from day one.

The Accidental Manager Programme helps new and emerging managers build the confidence, skills and practical tools they need to lead effectively.

What the programme covers

  • Leadership and influence
  • Professional and difficult conversations
  • Negotiation and communication skills
  • Managing team performance
  • Objective setting and accountability
  • Giving effective feedback

What makes this programme different

  • Delivered by experienced leadership specialists
  • Immediate impact in the workplace

Research from the Chartered Management Institute (2024) suggests that 82% of people entering management roles have had no formal leadership training.

HOW EVOLVE HELPS?

What is the Accidental Managers Programme?

The Accidental Manager Programme is a practical leadership development course designed for professionals who have recently stepped into management roles, or are preparing to.

Delivered by Evolve in Poole, this six-session programme supports first-time managers with the core skills required to lead people, improve team performance and navigate the challenges of managing others.

Whether you’re an individual looking to grow into leadership, or a business wanting to support your team, this programme provides a structured and supportive learning experience.

Who is this programme for?

  • First-time managers with little or no formal training
  • Employees recently promoted into leadership roles
  • Team members preparing to take on management responsibilities
  • SME businesses investing in leadership development
  • Supervisors and team leaders developing people management skills

Why first-time managers need support

Many managers are promoted because of their technical ability, not their leadership experience. Without the right support, this can lead to:

  • Lack of confidence in managing people
  • Avoidance of difficult conversations
  • Unclear expectations and poor performance
  • Reduced team morale and engagement

Investing in management training early helps build stronger teams, better performance and more confident leaders.

OUTCOME

Many managers are promoted because of their technical ability, not their leadership experience.

Without the right support, new managers often lack confidence, avoid difficult conversations, and struggle with unclear expectations, leading to poor performance and reduced team engagement. Early management training helps build stronger teams, improve performance and develop confident leaders.

This programme equips first-time managers with practical tools for managing performance, handling difficult conversations, setting clear objectives and leading effectively. All learning is immediately applicable, with small group sizes creating an interactive and supportive environment.
